Having played many a D&D campaign where you end up multiclassing various classes, you always end up losing track of what influences what when it comes to spellcasting. What spells you know is pretty straight forward to calculate, but when you’re mixing two, sometimes three, classes together it can always get confusing.
To simplify this process we’re introducing the Abacus, our page on Talesmith Tavern that contains a number of calculators relevant to both character creation and character gameplay as you level throughout your campaign. So far we have two calculators on the page, with plans for a potential third looking at dice probability.
The two are as follows:
This tool helps you determine the number of spell slots available to you based on the levels you have in various spellcasting classes. Whether you’re a full caster like a wizard or a half caster like a paladin, simply input your levels below, and the calculator will display your total spell slots across all spell levels. Simply enter in the levels you have in the classes (or sub-classes for Fighter or Rogue) and it will tell you what spell slots of each level you have available to you. It also tells you what level you are within the multiclassing spell slot table, for your own reference. This calculator gets it right, as some online forget that Artificer rounds up, not rounds down.
This tool helps you determine the various lifting capacities and jumping capabilities of your character based on their Strength score, size, and specific modifiers from class features, feats, spells, and magic items. If you’re playing with encumbrance it is important to know what you can carry up to. But even if you are not using those rules, knowing how far you can jump really informs your decision making when participating in a campaign. Usually you would have to go to different calculators to determine carry capacity separate to jumping and reaching, but now through the Abacus you can calculate it all at once.
